Served with the 17th Battalion. He and four others of the Battalion's B Company were captured by the Germans at Lagnicourt-Marcel (Pas-de-Calais) on 15 April 1917 and he remained a prisoner of war until the end of the war.
A statement to the Red Cross by Sergeant W J Richardson, 7th Platoon, B Company, describes the circumstances of their capture.
They were all in B Co. Noke was in the 5th Platoon, but the others were in the 7th Platoon. At Langicourt on the 15th April the Germans were attacking; we pushed them back and made a counter attack. About 13 men went out ... in the afternoon about 4 p.m. They went up a Sunken Road towards the German line. The Germans sniped some of the party. They were near the German trenches, and about 500 yards from our line; 3 men got back to our lines and told us that some of the party had been taken prisoners.
