As a boy of 8 years, Keith Morris had been a bugler in the Parramatta squadron of the New South Wales Lancers, in which his father was a sergeant. Served 8 years in the militia and 1st NSW Lancers.

Enlisted 31 August 1914. Next of kin Frederick Morris, father, "Highbury" Muston Street, Mosman.

Was at the landing at Gallipoli.

Dischanged from AIF, appointed to a temporary commission as 2nd Lieutenant in the 6th Battalion, Border Regiment, London Gazette dated 25 June 1915, with effect from 16 April 1916.

Awarded the Military Cross, London Gazette, 14 November 1916.

For conspicuous gallantry in action. He commanded his company under intense fire with great courage and ability. Later, he organised, and carried out a successful attack. He was wounded.

This action took place near Thiepval, 17/18 September 1916. The 6th Battalion attacked and gained part of Danube Trench on 16 September. Morris is on a wounded list dated 7 October 1916.
