He was awarded the Meritorious Service Medal. The recommendation reads:
"(Cpl Robert George William Hill) is a Company Clerk whose consistent good work and devotion to duty are worthy of the highest praise.
During the period February to September, 1918, he has been of the utmost assistance to his Company Commander, both in and out of the line.
He is a soldier whose cheerful bearing is an example to all."
He returned to Australia in June 1919 and was discharged in August 1919. [JSB]
