Born: July 1889
Died: 4 June 1981
Served at Gallipoli.
He and another member of the 56th Battalion were awarded the Military Medal for their actions as battalion runners during the Battle of Polygon Wood. They were initially recommended to receive the Distinguished Conduct Medal.
"These two runners during the whole of the operations from 26th September - 1st October (1917) inclusive made countless journeys from Battalion Headquarters to the front line under heavy shell fire from the enemy. In spite of the fact that many other runners had been killed and wounded while carrying out similar work and although the heavy nature of their task was telling on their physical strenth they were both always willing and eager to carry despatches. It was owing to their work that inter-Battalion communication was maintained throughout the tour of duty. In addition acting on their own initiaitve they were given permission to visit Companies during the advance on the 26th and brought back important messages."
