Roscoe Barnett Goulder joined the AIF in August 1915. He was taken on the strength of the 13th Battalion in Egypt on 4 March 1916. The battalion reached Maseilles, France on 5 June 1916. He was wounded in action (gunshot wound to his scalp) on 7 August 1916 when his unit was near Pozieres. He was evacuated to England for treatment and convalesence and returned to the front in February 1917.
He was hit in the chest by a bullet during an attack on the Hindenburg Line near Bapaume on 11 April 1917. The battalion retreated before he could be evacuated and he was captured. After treatment at a hospital in Valenciennes, France, he was sent to a prisoner of war camp in Germany.
He was repatriated to the UK in December 1918, where he remained until March 1919 when he embarked to return to Australia. He arrived in Sydney on 16 May 1919 and was discharged from the AIF on 9 March 1920. [JSB]
