Born: 15 September 1886
Died: 31 October 1917
Enlisted in the AIF in January 1916 and went into training at the Liverpool Camp in south-western Sydney. In March 1916, he was charged with being absent from guard duty and disobeying orders. His excuse was that he had to urgently return home to look after his sick wife and their four children. He returned to camp late the next day. He was found guilty of these charges and it was decided to discharge him as "incorrigible, and unlikely to become an efficient soldier."
He enlisted in the AIF a second time in January 1917 as William Robbins without making any reference to his previous service. He went on to serve as a Gunner with the 4th Battery, 2nd Field Artillery Brigade. He was killed on 31 October 1917 by a shell which hit his gun pit on Westhoek Ridge near Ypres, Belgium.
In 1919, his widow and children moved into one of the houses built in Bay Street, near Central Avenue, Mosman, by the Volunteer Workers Association. The house was named Robbinsville. [JSB]
