He joined the 46th Battalion on 10 July 1917. He was evacuated to hospital in France on 23 October 1918 suffering from appendicitis and then evacuated to England for treatment and convalescence.
He embarked for Australia on 15 January 1919 and arrived on 6 March then was discharged from the AIF on 5 April 1919. [JSB]
