A labourer who enlisted in the AIF on 5 April 1916. He embarked for England on 11 July and arrived on 9 September 1916.

He joined the 53rd Battalion on 21 December 1916. He was evacuated to hospital in France on 16 May 1917 with deafness and debility. He was reclassified as unfit for front line service and transferred to a holding unit in England on 25 June.

He embarked for Australia on 27 July 1917 and arrived on 29 September then was discharged medically unfit from the AIF on 1 January 1918.

His son, Alfred William Williams, was killed in action at Peronne, France on 1 September 1918. [JSB]
