A professional soldier in the Australian Military Force (AMF) who enlisted in the AIF on 30 August 1915 but was discharged from the AIF and transferred to the Group Instructional Staff in Australia on 9 March 1916.
As a Staff Sergeant Major in the AMF, he enlisted in the Australian Naval and Military Expeditionary Force (ANMEF) on 28 May 1918. He embarked for Rabaul, German New Guinea on 13 June and arrived on 24 June 1918.
He performed garrison duties at Rabaul and Kokopo, New Britain.
He embarked for Australia on 25 April and arrived on 3 May 1919 then was discharged medically unfit due to malaria from the ANMEF on 10 June 1919.
His sister Eleanor May Weston was married to George Lester who was killed in action and is commemorated on the western face of the Mosman War Memorial. [JSB]
