A photographer who enlisted in the AIF on 5 May 1915. He embarked for Egypt on 30 September 1915.
He was initially taken on the strength of the Composite Australian Light Horse Regiment then the 1st Australian Light Horse Reserve Regiment. On 21 April 1916, as part of the reorganisation of the AIF, he was transferred to the 10th Field Artillery Brigade which arrived at Marseilles, France on 12 June 1916 and then moved to northern France.
He was wounded (left hip) in action on 20 September 1917 near Ypres, Belgium. He was evacuated to England for treatment and convalescence. In March 1918, he was assessed as no longer fit for front line service.
He embarked for Australia on 12 May 1918 and arrived on 5 July then was discharged medically unfit from the AIF on 7 August 1918. [JSB]
