A mining engineer who enlisted in the AIF on 27 October 1915. He embarked with 2nd Australian Tunnelling Company for Egypt on 20 February 1916 and arrived on 25 April after extended stopovers in Melbourne and Perth. The unit immediately transferred to another ship and arrived at Marseilles, France on 5 May 1916 then immediately moved to Hazebrouck in northern France.

He commenced officer training in England on 25 November 1917 and on 23 February 1918 he was appointed a Second Lieutenant. He returned to his unit on 19 April 1918.

He embarked for Australia on 12 May 1919 and arrived on 28 June then his appointment in the AIF was terminated on 23 August 1919. [JSB]
