A clerk who enlisted in the AIF on 15 April 1915. He embarked for Egypt on 30 September 1915.
Initially placed as a reinforcement for the 1st Australian Light Horse Regiment in November 1915, he was transferred to the 10th Field Artillery Brigade on 22 April 1916.
He arrived at Marseilles, France on 12 June 1916 and moved to northern France. He was wounded (right leg) in action on 16 July 1917 when his unit was near Godewaersvelde, France. He was evacuated to England for treatment and convalescence.
He embarked for Australia on 21 December 1917 and arrived on 12 February then was discharged medically unfit from the AIF on 24 July 1918. [JSB]
