A farmer who enlisted in the AIF on 27 August 1914. He embarked for Egypt with the 2nd Battalion on 18 October and arrived on 8 December 1914.
The 2nd Battalion landed at Gallipoli on 25 April 1915. He was wounded in action on 2 May and after treatment returned to the front line on 18 May. He was evacuated from Gallipoli in early September to Mudros, Greece with influenza and rheumatism, and then to England for further treatment and convalescence.
He rejoined his unit in Egypt on 11 March 1916. Following further training, the 2nd Battalion arrived at Marseilles, France on 28 March 1916 then immediately moved to northern France. While the Battalion was in the front line at Fleurbaix, France, he was wounded (back) in action on 12 June and evacuated to England for treatment and convalescence.
He rejoined the Battalion on 27 December 1916. On 23 July 1917, he joined the 1st Training Battalion in England, then rejoined the 2nd Battalion on 4 December 1917.
He embarked for Australia on "1914 Leave" on 23 October 1918 and arrived on 23 December then was discharged from the AIF on 22 February 1919.
