A farmer who enlisted in the AIF on 26 September 1914. He embarked for Egypt on 21 December 1914.
He joined the 1st Battalion and landed at Gallipoli on 25 April 1915. He was evacuated in July to hospital at Lemnos, Greece suffering from eczema. He rejoined his unit on 5 August. Following the withdrawal from Gallipoli he returned to Egypt on 28 Decemeber 1915.
He joined the 1st Division Signals Company on 15 March and arrived at Marseilles, France on 23 March 1916. He was awarded the Military Medal based on the following recommendation:
"Near Chuignolles (France) during the attack on 23rd Aug 1918, Sgt Roseby was with the Brigade Forward Station. When the party became scattered owing to the heavy shelling he collected them and took them to the site for the forward station, established the station and assisted to lay and maintain lines to the forward units under heavy shell fire. He set a splendid example to all connected with him, and it was due to his untiring energy and great personal courage that he was successful in maintaining communication throughout the attack."
He embarked for Australia on 8 October 1918 on 1914 Leave (?) and arrived on 2 December then was discharged from the AIF on 3 February 1919. [JSB]
