An accountant who enlisted in the AIF on 26 February 1915. He embarked for Egypt with the 17th Battalion on 12 May and arrived on 12 June 1915.

The Battalion landed at Gallipoli on 20 August 1915. He was evacuated from the front line with enteric on 27 October then to Gibraltar and England for treatment and convalescence.

He rejoined the 17th Battalion at Bois-Grenier, France on 16 May 1916. He was wounded (arm) in action on 27 July when the 17th was in the front line east of Pozieres, France and evacuated to England for treatment and convalescence.

He returned to the 17th Battalion, then resting in the vicinity of Arques in northern France, on 19 August 1917. He was again evacuated to England in January 1918 for treatment of haemmorhoids. He returned to the Battalion on 3 May.

He was wounded (right thigh) near Wiancourt, France during what turned out to be the Battalion's last action in the front line. He was again evacuated to England.

He embarked for Australia on 8 January 1919 and arrived on 20 February then his appointment in the AIF was terminated on 25 April 1919. [JSB]
