A coach builder who enlisted in the AIF on 19 April 1915. He embarked for Egypt on 29 June 1915.
He joined the 26th Battalion at Gallipoli in September 1915. Following the withdrawal from Gallipoli in December he returned to Egypt on 9 January 1916. His battalion arrived at Marseille, France on 21 March and immediately moved to Morbecque in northern France. He was wounded (ankle) in action on 5 August at Pozieres and evacuated to England for treatment and convalescence.
He rejoined the 26th Battalion which was in a rest area at Bapaume, France on 3 July 1917. He was detached in January 1918 to Headquarters Australian Corps, then in May 1918 to Headquarters 2nd Australian Division and then in August 1918 to Headquarters 1st Australian Division to perform batman duties.
He embarked for Australia on 28 March 1919 and arrived on 18 May then was discharged medically unfit from the AIF on 19 September 1919. [JSB]
