An insurance inspector who was a part time member of the 4th Australian Garrison Artillery at Middle Head, Mosman and who enlisted in the AIF on 25 February 1916. He embarked for England on 11 May 1916.

After additional training, he was posted on 5 August 1916 to the 6th Siege Battery, Royal Garrison Artillery (RGA) at Sheerness, Kent. On 3 January 1917, he joined the 338th Siege Battery at Stowlangtoft, Suffolk.

He joined the 36th Heavy Artillery Group on 21 July 1917 in northern France. He returned to England and commenced training at the Royal Artillery (Officer) Cadet School on 4 January 1918. He was appointed a Second Lieutenant on 26 June then rejoined his unit in France on 23 July 1918.

He embarked for Australia on 20 July 1919 and arrived on 11 September then his commission in the AIF was terminated on 9 November 1919. [JSB]
