A labourer who enlisted in the AIF on 18 April 1916. He embarked for England on 9 September and arrived on 26 October 1916.
He joined the 1st Battalion at Fricourt east of Albert, France on 13 February 1917. He was wounded (left side, right leg) in action at Westhoek Ridge, Belgium on 2 October 1917. After initial treatment in France he was evacuated to England for further treatment and convalescence.
While training in England to return to his unit, he transferred to the Machine Gun Corps in April 1918. Following specialist training in England, he joined the 2nd Machine Gun Battalion in France on 10 July 1918. He accidently broke his right ankle on 29 August at Cappy, France. He was evacuated initially to hospital in France and then to England.
He embarked for Australia on 18 December 1918 and arrived on 5 February 1919 then was discharged from the AIF on 25 March 1919. [JSB]
