An auctioneer and grazier who enlisted in the AIF on 20 June 1915. He embarked for Egypt on 30 September 1915.
He joined the 1st Company, Army Service Corps, 1st Australian Divisional Train on 21 November 1915. He was detached on 7 December for service at El Dabaa with the Western (Egyptian) Frontier Force, then returned to his unit on 13 March 1916. He arrived at Marseilles, France on 1 April 1916 with his unit which immediately moved to Abbeville in northern France.
He was medically evacuated on 17 September 1916 to hospital initially in France and then England for treatment of kidney stones. Following discharge from hospital he was sent to holding units until his return to his unit in France on 2 May 1918. On 6 June 1917, he had married Josephine Claudia Philippe at Lambeth, Surrey.
He embarked for Australia with his wife and child on 3 July 1919 and arrived on 23 August then was discharged from the AIF on 14 November 1919. [JSB]
