A farmer who enlisted in the AIF on 13 March 1915 stating his age as 44 when aged 47, two years over the maximum enlistment age. He embarked for Egypt on 12 June 1915.
He joined the 15th Battalion at Gallipoli on 30 July and was medically evacuated to Mudros, Greece on 28 October for treatment and convalescence. He rejoined the battalion at Moascar, Egypt on 27 January 1916.
The battalion arrived at Marseilles, France on 8 June and immediately moved to the north of France. He was killed in action at Pozieres, France on 8 August 1916 while carrying a message to 15th Battalion Headquarters requesting reinforcements for his company then holding a captured German trench. His body was never recovered. [JSB]
