A stockman who enlisted in the AIF on 13 November 1915. He embarked for Egypt on 9 April 1916.
Following further training in Egypt he arrived in Marseilles, France on 14 June and immediately moved to a holding unit in northern France. He joined the 45th Battalion on 9 August when it was in the rear of the front line at Pozieres, France.
He was wounded (scalp, arms, right leg) in action on 8 June 1917 at Messines, Belgium when his battalion suffered over 400 casualties. He was evacuated for treatment in France and then to England for further treatment and convalescence.
He embarked for Australia on 27 September and arrived on 19 November then was discharged medically unfit from the AIF on 25 December 1917. [JSB]
