Born: 1 January 1883
A commercial traveller who joined the AIF on 19 January 1915. He embarked for Egypt on 17 March 1915.
He served with the 4th Battalion at Gallipoli from 31 May until he was evacuated to Mudros, Greece on 14 June for treatment of colic. He was then moved in late July to Egypt where he was diagnosed as suffering from rheumatism which rendered him medically unfit.
He embarked for Australia on 3 September and arrived on 30 September then was discharged from the AIF on 13 December 1915. He married Eliza Richardson Lyall Lawton on 30 October 1915.
He re-enlisted in the AIF on 20 March 1916 and embarked for England as a reinforcement for the 1st Pioneer Battalion on 14 April. He arrived on 11 June and soon after commencing further training he was again found to be medically unfit from rheumatism.
He embarked for Australia on 21 October and arrived on 8 December then was discharged from the AIF on 17 January 1917.
He enlisted as a munitions worker to serve in England and embarked on 1 August 1918. He deserted when his ship stopped at Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada in October 1917. There is no firm evidence that he ever returned to Australia. [JSB]
