A butcher who enlisted in the AIF on 2 August 1915. He embarked for Egypt on 2 November 1915.
He was allotted to the 53rd Battalion which arrived in Marseilles, France on 28 June 1916 and immediately moved to northern France. He was wounded (left thigh and buttock) in action on 29 March 1917 in the front line east of Bapaume, France. Initially evacuated for treatment in France, he was then evacuated to England for further treatment and convalescence.
He embarked for Australia on 10 September and arrived on 13 November 1917 then was discharged from the AIF on 13 February 1918. [JSB]
