A clerk with the Papuan Government Service who enlisted in the AIF on 1 April 1916. He embarked for England on 30 September and arrived on 19 November 1916.
He joined the 7th Field Artillery Brigade in France in January 1917. He was wounded in action on 30 May but remained on duty. He was gassed on 6 June and evacuated for treatment and convalescence in France.
He rejoined his unit on 4 September. He was wounded (shell shock) in action for the third time on 18 September. He was evacuated for treatment and convalescence in France and then, after his fitness level was reduced to base service only, in December 1917 to England for further convalescence. It was decided that he should return to Australia.
He embarked for Australia on 10 January and arrived on 7 March then was discharged from the AIF on 4 April 1918. [JSB]
