A sailor who enlisted in the AIF on 12 July 1915. He embarked for Egypt on 5 October 1915.
He was allotted to the 17th Battalion on 5 February 1916. After further training in Egypt, the Battalion went to France, arriving at Marseilles on 23 March and then went to northern France.
He was evacuated to hospital at Boulogne, France on 14 October 1916 diagnosed with flat feet. He was classified as unfit on 20 October and then held at the 2nd Australian Divisional Base Depot at Etaples, France before being evacuated to England on 2 March 1917.
Following treatment and convalescence he was attached to the AIF War Chest Club in London from June 1917 to December 1918. The club was a popular stop off for Australian troops on leave in London.
He embarked for Australia on 3 March and arrived on 25 April 1919 then was discharged from the AIF 4 August 1919, [JSB]
