A doctor who appointed to the AIF on 19 October 1914. He embarked with the 2nd Australian Stationary Hospital on 14 December 1914.

"John Edward Ferdinand Deakin, M.B., Ch.M. : Captain, A.A.M.C., A.I.F., Egypt and Gallipoli. Enlisting in September, 1914, and sailing in December with No. 2 Australian Stationary Hospital, served with it at Mena, Egypt and Lemnos. Was also present at Cape Helles Landing, with fleet sweeper Clacton between Anzac and Lemnos from April to June, 1915, and from October till the Evacuation O.C. No. 2 A.S. He embarked for Australia on 3 January 1916 and arrived on 28 January 1916. His appointment in the AIF was terminated on 14 February 1916.
