A clerk who enlisted in the AIF on 8 May 1916, not long after being widowed for the second time, when his wife Elizabeth Winifred (nee Shortell) died on 14 Apr 1916. He had served in the South African War with the British Army.
He embarked for England on 10 February 1917 and arrived on 11 April 1917. After further training in England, he joined the 2nd Battalion in France on 20 October 1917.
He embarked for Australia on 6 July 1919 and arrived on 26 August 1919. He was discharged from the AIF on 5 October 1919. [JSB]
