A commercial traveler who enlisted in the AIF on 6 September 1915. He embarked for Egypt on 20 December 1915.
After further training in Egypt, he arrived in Marseilles, France on 27 March 1916 and then went to a holding unit before joining the 17th Battalion on 3 May 1916.
He was wounded (shell shock) in action on 26 July 1916 when the 17th was in the front line near Pozieres. He was evacuated to England for treatment and convalescence. He was assessed as suffering from nervous debility and should return to Australia.
He embarked for Australia on 22 February 1917 and arrived on 12 April 1917. He was discharged from the AIF on 28 May 1917. [JSB]
