A public servant who enlisted in the AIF on 3 May 1916. He embarked for England on 24 August 1916 and arrived on 11 October 1916.
Following further training he joined the 30th Battalion in France on 23 December 1916. He had several illnesses during 1917 which required hospital treatment in France. Eventually, on 22 December 1917 he was evacuated to England for further hospital treatment.
In February 1918, he commenced training as a machine gunner and on 6 July 1918 he joined the 2nd Machine Gun Battalion in France. Three weeks later he was again medically evacuated to England.
He embarked for Australia on 2 January 1919 and arrived on 17 February 1919. He was discharged from the AIF on 3 April 1919. [JSB]
