A police constable who enlisted in the AIF on 20 August 1914. He embarked for Egypt on 18 October 1914 with the 2nd Battalion and arrived on 8 December 1914.
He landed at Gallipoli on 25 April 1915 and was evacuated suffering from enteric fever on 12 July 1915. He was assessed to be medically unfit in September 1915 and embarked for Australia on 30 October 1915. He arrived on 4 December 1915 and was discharged medically unfit from the AIF on 28 April 1916.
He enlisted in the AIF for a second time on 20 July 1918 but was subsequently discharged on 1 October 1918. He then joined the Australian Naval and Military Expeditionary Force (ANMEF) on 6 November 1918 and embarked for Rabaul, New Britain on 13 November and arrived on 22 November 1918. In May 1921 he joined the civil administration in Rabaul. [JSB]
