A ship's steward who enlisted in the AIF on 21 February 1916. He embarked for England on 24 April 1917 and arrived on 17 August 1917.
He joined the 12th Australian Field Ambulance which was then located near Poperinge, Belgium, on 9 October 1917. He was medically evacuated on 2 November 1917 to hospital in France and was eventually reclassified as fit for base duty only.
He returned to England in January 1918. After being with various holding units, on 20 October 1918 he was attached to the 2nd Group Clearing Hospital, Hurdcott, Wiltshire. He married Bolina Adelaide Pooley on 26 February 1919.
He embarked with his wife for Australia on 9 August 1919 and arrived on 3 October 1919. He was discharged from the AIF on 10 November 1919. [JSB]
