A wool classer who enlisted in the AIF on 12 February 1915. He embarked for Egypt on 10 May 1915 with the 22nd Battalion.
He embarked for Gallipoli on 30 August 1915 and landed with the 22nd Battalion on 5 September 1915. He was evacuated in late November 1915 suffering from jaundice. He rejoined his unit in Egypt in March 1916 but stayed behind when it departed for France later that month.
He landed in Marseilles, France on 5 June 1916 and went to a holding unit in Etaples, France. He rejoined the Battalion on 7 July 1916 at Steenwerck near Armentieres in northern France.
He was wounded (left side) in action on 5 August 1916 at Pozieres and was evacuated to England for treatment and convalescence.
He embarked for Australia on 13 February 1917 and arrived on 12 April 1917. He was discharged medically unfit from the AIF on 8 June 1917. [JSB]
