A bank clerk who enlisted in the AIF in April 1918, aged 18. He embarked for the UK on 19 June and arrived on 26 August 1918.
He was allotted to the 35th Battalion and was undertaking training in England when the war ended. He joined the 35th in France in January 1919. Between April and August 1919 he was detached to the Graves Registration Unit which was involved in exhuming, identifying and reburying soldiers killed in France in purpose built military cemeteries.
He departed for Australia on 25 September 1919. He arrived on 17 November and was discharged from the AIF on 10 December 1919.
He also served in World War 2.. He was at the fall of Singapore and became a prisoner of war. [JSB]
