An auctioneer at Inverell who enlisted in the AIF in Novenber 1914 and served with the 7th Australian Light Horse Regiment.
He arrived at Gallipoli on 15 May 1915 and was wounded (scalp) in action on 20 July 1915. After evacuation for treatment and convalescence at Malta, he returned to Gallipoli on 24 August 1915 and remained there until the evacuation in December 1915.
He then served in Egypt and Palestine. In August 1916, he was admitted to hospital suffering from shell shock and dilated heart. He was diagnosed with tachycardia and found to be unfit to continue service. He departed for Australia on 23 September 1916 and arrived on 28 October 1916. His appointment in the AIF was terminated on 12 February 1917.
His sister Harriet Glanville McArdle (nee Bice) who was his next of kin, was living with her sister Lucy Martha Hill (nee Bice) at Wynola, 36 Warringah Road (corner Spit Road), Mosman. Charles Godfrey Hill is his cousin. [JSB]
