A traveller who enlisted in the AIF in November 1915. He departed for England on 22 August 1916 and arrived on 12 October 1916. After further training in England, he joined the 4th Battalion in France in January 1917.
He was transferred to the 35th Battalion in May 1918. On 8 August 1918, he was wounded (left thigh) in action when his unit was at Hamel at the beginning of the Hundred Day Offensive. He was evacuated to hospital and convalesced in France before returning to his unit on 21 September 1918.
At the end of September and into October, the 35th was pushing forward to the Hindeburgh Line in the vicinity of Saulcourt. On 5 October 1918, it was withdrawn from the front line for the last time.
He embarked for Australia on 4 July 1919 and arrived on 19 August 1919. He was discharged from the AIF soon after. [JSB]
