A clerk who enlisted in the AIF in September 1915. He embarked for overseas service at Sydney on 5 June 1916. He served with 18th Battlion from 12 to 24 November when he was evacuated to Rouen, France and then England suffering from trench feet.
In March 1917, he was sent for convalescence and fitness training at No 3 Australian Command Depot as a first step in being retrained for front line service. In August 1917, he was transferred to the permanent establishment of No 3 Australian Command Depot and then, in January 1918, to No 2 Australian Command Depot.
He embarked for Australia on 5 April 1918 and arrived at Sydney on 1 June 1918. He was discharged from the AIF on 2 July 1918 as medically unfit due to defective vision. [JSB]
