A farm labourer who enlisted in the AIF in August 1915 at Cootamundra. He was wounded in action on 26 July 1916 at Pozieres. He returned to duty 12 days later. He was wounded for a second time on 14 November 1916 at Flers; this time severely. He was among the 381 casualties from the 19th Battalion that day. He was evacuated to England for treatment.
For a short time, while in England, he was held on the strength of the nascent 62nd Battalion which disbanded in October 1917 at which time he returned to the 19th Battalion. He was transferred to the 20th Battalion in October 1918 when the 19th Battalion was disbanded. He returned to Australia in May 1919 and was discharged in July 1919.
His next of kin in Australia was his sister Lilian whose husband, John James Egbert Watson, is commemorated on the Mosman War Memorial. [JSB]
