Eric Lloyd Hutchinson, D.S.O., L.R.C.P. and S. (Edin.), L.F.P.S. (Glas.), Arts and Med. : Major, A.A.M.C., A.I.F., Gallipoli and France. Enlisting 1st May, 1915, and sailing 26th June as R.M.O. 20th Battn., served at Anzac from August till the Evacuation. Crossing to France in March, was at Pozieres and Flers, where wounded 12th November, rejoining battn. on recovery. Transferring to No. 2 Australian General Hospital, Wimereux, 23rd March, 1917, joined 6th Australian Field Ambulance 15th April, serving at Bullecourt, Ypres, Dernancourt and elsewhere until demobilisation. Promoted major, 20th June, 1917. Awarded D.S.O.* 17th December, 1917, and Mentioned in Despatches twice. Early education at Sydney Church of England Grammar School.

* For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty when in charge of the evacuation of wounded from the forward area. He led a relief of stretcher-bearers over a track knee-deep in mud, and at times over his waist in water. Another time he led a party through an intense barrage, thus relieving a temporary congestion of the wounded. He had very little rest during the whole four days.
