A farmer who enlisted in the AIF on 4 November 1915. He embarked for Egypt on 16 November and arrived on 18 December 1915.

He was allotted to the 51st Battery, 13th Field Artillery Brigade (FAB) on 16 April 1916. His Battery Commander was his brother, Henry Kenneth Prior. The unit arrived at Marseilles, France on 23 June 1916 and immediately moved to Le Havre in northern France. He transferred from gunnery duties to the Brigade Headquarters (BHQ) on 24 July 1916.

He was wounded (gassed) in action on 5 September 1917 near Ypres, Belgium. The 13th FAB's War Diary reported heavy shelling in the early morning of 5 September causing three casualties among BHQ personnel. He was evacuated to England for treatment and convalescence.

He embarked for Australia on 21 December 1917 and arrived on 14 February and then was discharged medically unfit from the AIF on 30 March 1918. [JSB]
