A compositor who enlisted in the AIF on 20 September 1915. He embarked for Egypt on 9 November and arrived in December 1915.

He was allotted to the 3rd Field Artillery Brigade which landed at Marseille, France on 29 March 1916 and on 6 April moved to Le Havre in northern France. He was wounded (gassed) in action on 16 December 1917 and was evacuated to England for treatment and convalescence. On 21 October 1918 he rejoined his unit which had been withdrawn from the front line for the last time on 5 October to a rest area near Bussus-Busseul east of Abbeville, France.

He embarked for Australia on 20 April 1919 and arrived on 8 June then was discharged medically unfit from the AIF on 26 September 1919. [JSB]
