A clerk who enlisted in the AIF on 19 July 1916. He married Florence May Power on 23 September then embarked for England on 8 November 1916. He arrived on 10 January 1917.

He joined the 4th Battalion on 2 May 1917 when it was in the front line at Vaulx-Vraucourt, France. He was evacuated to hospital in France with trench fever on 30 July and later evacuated to England for further treatment and convalescence.

He rejoined the 4th Battalion on 22 December 1917 when it was in a rest area at Kemmel, Belgium. He was wounded (left hand) in action on 16 April 1918 at Strazeele, France. His Battalion had more than 50 casualties that day. He was evacuated to England for treatment and convalescence.

In July, he transferred to the Machine Gun Corps and on 18 September 1918 he joined the 1st Machine Gun Battalion in France.

He embarked for Australia on 12 June 1919 and arrived on 27 July then was discharged from the AIF on 20 October 1919. [JSB]
