A grocer who enlisted in the AIF on 20 October 1916. He embarked for England on 23 November 1916 and arrived on 29 January 1917.

He joined the 6th Battalion near Bapaume, France on 12 May. He was wounded (legs, arms, face) in action on 4 October 1917 when there was an Australian attack at Westhoek Ridge, Belgium. After initial treatment in France, he was evacuated to England for further treatment and convalescence.

He rejoined the 6th Battalion on 18 March 1918 when the unit was resting at Parret Camp near Kemmel, Belgium. He was wounded (right thigh) in action for a second time on 23 August when the 6th was attacking the German lines near Foucaucourt-en-Santerre, France. He was evacuated for treatment and convalescence in England and remained in hospital until 25 January 1919.

He embarked for Australia on 16 March 1919 and arrived 15 May. He had further treatment then was discharged from the AIF on 9 April 1920. [JSB]
