A commercial traveler who joined the AIF on 17 September 1914. He embarked for Egypt on 22 December 1914.

He joined the 6th Australian Light Horse Regiment at Gallipoli on 6 August 1915. He was transferred to the 2nd Signal Troop, 2nd Australian Light Horse Brigade on 9 September 1915. He was evacuated on 28 September to Malta and then England suffering from enteric.

Following an extended period of treatment, convalescence and further training he joined the 1st Australian Division Signals Company in France on 10 September 1917.

He embarked for Australia for "1914 Leave" on 8 October and arrived on 4 December 1918. Following further medical treatment at Randwick Military Hospital he was discharged medically unfit from the AIF on 15 March 1919. [JSB]
