The 7th of October 1916 is Taronga Zoo’s birthday. It was timely that I happened a scanned copy of the opening invitation in the Trace image archive:

The Zoo has been closed to the public only twice in it’s 100 year history. The first time was to house strike breakers ; the second was during the recent Pandemic.
A humorous poem aimed at the strike-breakers was published at the time it can be read in the post Taronga Zoo’s ‘New Exhibits.’
