Biographical Summary:
A clerk who enlisted in the AIF on 16 April 1915. He embarked for Egypt on 13 July. Due to being assessed as medically unfit he returned to Australia. He embarked on 25 September and arrived on 17 October. He remained in the Army and formally re-enlisted in the AIF on 27 January 1916. He embarked for Egypt on 14 March and arrived on 15 April.
He was allotted to the 29th Battalion which arrived in France on 23 June and immediately went to northern France. He was wounded (chest) in action on 19 March 1918 when the 29th was under heavy bombardment by the Germans near Oosttaverne, Belgium. He was evacuated to England for treatment and convalescence.
He returned to France in late November and was transferred to the 58th Battalion which he joined on 2 December.
He embarked for Australia on 28 March and arrived on 16 May then was discharged from the AIF on 9 July 1919. [JSB]
