Biographical Summary:
A surveyor who enlisted in the AIF on 28 February 1916. He embarked for England on 7 October 1916 and arrived on 21 November 1916.
After further training in England, he joined the 3rd Company Field Engineers in France on 11 May 1917. In early October 1918 he was sent to Officer Cadet School in England. On 3 January 1919 he was appointed Second Lieutenant and returned to his unit on 4 February 1919.
From April to September 1919, he was involved in a variety of tasks including building a fence around the 15 inch German naval gun emplacement captured at Chuignes near Proyart, Somme. He was also stationed at Pozieres working on the monument to be built there.
He embarked for Australia on 1 November 1919 and arrived on 15 December 1919. His appointment in the AIF was terminated on 30 January 1920. [JSB]
