Biographical Summary:
The British Journal of Nursing reported that the King conferred on Assistant Matron Mary CHAPMAN the Royal Red Cross, First Class, at Buckingham Palace, on July 26th, 1918.
Nurse Mary Chapman, who is assistant matron at the Military Hospital, Ripon, has been decorated with the Royal Red Cross (first-class). She left Queensland accompanied by her (half-)sister, Nurse Minnie Chapman (who is on active service in France), for England at the outbreak of the war and joined the Imperial Army. The Misses Chapman received their training at the General Hospital, Brisbane.
