Biographical Summary:
A carpenter who enlisted in the AIF in September 1915. He served with the 54th Battalion and was wounded on 20 July 1916 at the Battle of Fromelles. The battalion was in the first wave of the attack on the German lines and suffered heavy casualties (65%).
He was evacuated to a hospital in Boulogne and then to England for treatment of a gun shot wound to his head. He returned to France in May 1917. His Battalion was disbanded and merged with the 56th Battalion in October 1918.
He embarked for Australia in April 1919 and arrived on 13 June. He was discharged from the AIF in December 1919. [JSB]
