Wounded in action, Battle of Fromelles, 20 July 1916 (gunshot wound, head). Rejoined his battalion on 12 August 1916.

Killed in action on 25 October 1916 while his battalion was defending the front line at Le Barque (Ligny-Thilloy, Pas-de-Calais, France).

Husband of Phyllis Daisy Coutts, of Daceyville. Youngest son of Laurence T. Coutts, Stanmore, and Mrs. Coutts, Mosman.

His mother lived at Bray Street, Mosman (Sands Directory, 1918).
