Biographical Summary:

John Brown worked for the NSW Government Railways prior to enlisting in the AIF in 1916. He served with the 56th Battalion for three months before transferring to the 17th Australian Light Railway Operating Company. At the time of his enlistment he stated that he was a widower but no marriage record has been found. He married again in 1920. [JSB]
